    Story

On this page you can support my marathon journey. On 23 April 2023 I ran my first marathon – the London Marathon 2023 – and managed to complete it in 3:54:39, which was a dream-come-true.

I spent a lot of my childhood either in various hospitals, in a wheelchair, or at home, recovering from broken bones and what not. At age 8 I was told by the doctors that I would never be able to walk again, let alone run... My family helped me get through it and it was a little miracle that I eventually got better. Re-learning to walk at age 9 leaning on any wall I could find was a very 'interesting' experience...

My sister started this whole runnning fever by signing me up to my first ever race in 2022, and my super supportive wife made it possible by encouraging me to keep going.

One thing which you may not know – running and racing is not cheap, contrary to popular belief. A pair of racing shoes which fit me (don't even get me started...) costs north of £250, and you need several different pairs to train for every race. And that's just shoes.

What drives me forward is the magic which happens when I put those shoes on and hit the road. The memory of my childhood makes me appreciate every step of each race and I feel immensely grateful for anyone supporting me on this journey.

If you'd like to join in the passion for running, make yourself feel better, or if you have more money than you can responsibly handle, hit that donate button and you'll make both of us happy.

3 December 2023 is another big day – the Valencia Marathon, which I already have a place in. My big dream is to finish all 6 Marathon Majors (London, Berlin, Chicago, Boston, New York and Tokyo).

Anyway, thanks for being here and reading this far. Have a great day and remember – you can come back to this page to donate as many times as you want 😀

Dzidek is pronounced 'G-deck'. I love running and got into marathoning. If you think that I'm going through a mid-life crisis, you are probably right. I'm 47 and balding... I'm generally not trying to be funny, it just happens.
